Kia ora, Advanced FS!

This week's blog post is on a well-known story from your country. There are many Maori myths and legends here in New Zealand, and one such story by well-known childrens' writer Peter Gossage is how Maui slowed the sun, as noted in the animated hit movie 'Moana'.

Share your story for everyone to read by posting below. Enjoy!

  1. In Japan there are many old stories. One of the most famous stories is Momotaro.Momotaro was born from a peach. And he fought with demons. This is typical story in Japan. Many old stories reward good and punish evil. Children in Japan learn morals from these stories.

  2. My country, Japan has many many tales of old Japan. I’d like to pick up on one of them. The story is “Inch Boy.” He is a tiny little and brave boy. He fights against demons by using his tiny little body to defend a princess.
    It’s a funny story.
    I share the story below!!

    1. This was a great story, thank you! I, too, have paid my respects at the Kyomizu Temple. A similar fairytale in English is 'Thumbelina': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81dViLI_nQI

  3. There are many Thai myths and legends. There is one story that I never knew that is "Mountain of the Sleeping Lady".
It's believe that this mountain was formed from a lady body and grew to a large size. The lady was mentioned before she was pregnant and lost her husband. She went out, looking for her husband. She collapsed to the ground, cried out in despair before dying.
I just found out this story around 2 years ago. At that time, there was a group of students went there, trapped deep inside the cave underneath the mountain and couldn't come out for about 2 weeks. It was said that because of a Sleeping Lady.

    1. Hi Dao, I remember the incident where the group of Thai students were stuck underground. It made international news and I remember feeling so pleased when they made it out. We also have a Maori legend about Maui's brothers turning into the Southern Alps of New Zealand...https://mhclearningwithmissr.weebly.com/maori-myths-and-legends/creation-legend.
